Guitarist and composer, was born in Brescia in 1956, had the first approach with a musical instrument, the clarinet, when he was very young. In the second half of Seventies was tenor-saxophonist in jazz groups with famous musicians as Sandro Gibellini; at the same time he devoted himself to the study of classical guitar. He studied with Marco De Santi and graduated in classical guitar at the Conservatory of Alexandria; he has also attended courses of harmony and jazz composition held by Nino Donzelli at the Centro Studi Musicali of Cremona. As composer and performer he has released two CDs: “Folìas” with percussionist Beppe Gioacchini (Map 1994) and “Mediterranean view” with the  singer Betty Vittori (Panastudio 1999), which are placed in the ” border music area”. Original songs are in some CD entitled: “Apparenze – nuove musiche”  (Radio Onda d’Urto – Spazio Classica   1999) and “Dialogo” (Map 2003), both dedicated to Italian classical composers and performed by the guitar duo Les Divertissements; “Chitarra lieve” (Map 2006), a collection of music performed by the guitarist Maria Vittoria Jedlowski and “Canto di Primavera” (Map 2007) a monographic CD played by the guitarist Claudio Ballabio, who in 2005 analyzed many composer’s works to process at the Milan Conservatory his dissertation entitled “Eugenio Catina: le piccole cose dell’universo”.
Eugenio Catina, reworking “La vita é bella” by Nicola Piovani, has created a suite in four parts for guitar solo, distributed by Carisch and performed for the first time by the same Ballabio in April 2004 in Milan, within at Franco Cerri’s concert.
In 2007 he wrote “Metodo di armonia per chitarra”, two-volume work (Bèrben Edition), sent by the publisher to classical guitar’s teachers of all the Italian conservatories; in the work he compared the classical and jazz harmonics techniques,  providing multiple solutions for their use on the guitar.
His “48 Preludi” were inserted in great works for guitar by Bèrben. His compositions  were delivered at  internal events such as the ““Festival del Teatro d’Europa: una serata a Palazzo Reale” (Milano 1999),” Associazione Le sei corde, concerti d’autunno” (Brescia  2000 e 2005), “Jazz for Koala”(Milano 2005), “Stagione concertistica  dell’associazione F.Gaffurio” (Lodi 2005), “Altrospazio –  Associazione culturale di arte e musica” (Milano 2006), “Acoustic Franciacorta” (Brescia 2008 e 2009), “Omaggio a Eugenio Catina, concerto per duo di chitarre” (Brescia 2010),  “Fondazione Nymphe, eventi estivi” (Padernello 2013)…
His music has been performed in England, Spain, France, Canada and it is published by Bèrben, Carisch, Eufonia and M.A.P. Editions.
